StudyTale Terms of Use
Adopted: September 28, 2026 / Revised and effective: October 15, 2026
These Terms govern StudyTale, provided by tempi株式会社 (tempi Inc., “we”). See our Privacy Policy for information handling and Sales Disclosure for sales conditions.
Contents
1. Users and agreement
Account creation, purchases, profile entry and creation operations must be carried out by someone at least 18 and legally an adult where they live. You must declare that you are an adult when creating an account. A service contract is formed when you accept the displayed Terms and sign in. Children may read with adult supervision. The free library requires no account.
Parents/guardians must have authority to register and use children's information and provide age-appropriate explanations and necessary permissions. An adult self-declaration is not completed identity or parental verification. AI/image permission and optional analytics choices are separate from acceptance of these Terms.
2. Service and accounts
StudyTale provides book/character generation, sharing, reading, translation, narration and related features. Available languages, voices and features are shown in the app. Sign-in uses Apple or Google. Protect your authentication methods and devices. Unauthorised use of another account, impersonation and fraudulent allowance acquisition are prohibited. Tell us if you become aware of misuse.
3. Groups and sharing
A group has up to 30 members. People with its invitation code/link can join. Existing and new members share the existing bookshelf, characters and reader profiles, including names, birth year/month and interests. Invite trusted people and explain sharing to affected individuals/parents. Invitations currently expire 14 days after issue.
Members can create/edit according to feature permissions. Deletion is limited to creators, owners and other authorised roles; owners manage membership and group deletion. If an owner leaves or deletes their account, ownership passes to the longest-standing remaining member, with user ID breaking a tie. A group is deleted when its last member leaves.
Leaving or deleting an account does not erase all shared content from groups with remaining members. See Section 11 and Privacy Policy Section 10. A small group does not automatically qualify for copyright private-use or household-processing exceptions.
4. Rights in inputs and outputs
Rights that you or existing rightsholders have in photos, text, drawings and other inputs remain with them. Provide only information for which you have necessary permission from rightsholders, depicted people and parents/guardians, or another lawful basis for processing and sharing through this service. Owning a physical toy does not automatically confer copyright or other rights in its character.
You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, transform, translate, process with AI and deliver inputs/outputs as necessary to provide them to your designated group. This includes overseas processing and necessary sublicensing to providers, limited to service provision, security and lawful handling. It is not a blanket licence for model training or advertising. Duration, deletion and shared content follow the Privacy Policy.
To the extent we hold transferable rights in outputs, we transfer them to the creating user, subject to applicable law and third-party rights/conditions. We do not guarantee that AI outputs attract copyright, are exclusive or different from others' outputs, or avoid all third-party rights. Publication, sale or other use outside the app requires checking rights for that use.
5. Prohibited use and infringement
Unlawful, infringing or discriminatory use; harmful content including child sexual exploitation; unauthorised use of others' images/personal data; false confirmation of the age of people shown in photos; security interference; evasion of safety or billing limits; and unauthorised access are prohibited.
Report infringement or dangerous content to us. Following necessary checks, we may take proportionate action such as hiding/deleting content, stopping processing or restricting accounts. Considering urgency, law, safety and others' rights, we explain reasons and how to object where possible. A report alone does not automatically establish a user's liability.
6. AI characteristics and safety
AI is used for text, translation, images, narration, sound effects and related features. Results may contain mistakes, unnatural or age-inappropriate content, or inconsistent appearances. Automated safety checks are not perfect. Adults should review, edit/delete as needed and read with children. This is not professional advice, including medical advice, or a guarantee of educational results.
These explanations do not exclude our statutory obligations concerning conformity, safety or compensation.
7. Subscriptions and free trial
New personal books and AI editing require an active subscriber in the group. A subscription belongs to the purchasing adult account; its allowance is shared across all groups they belong to. StudyTale group sharing is separate from Apple's Family Sharing.
Japanese tax-inclusive prices are JPY 1,980 per month or JPY 19,800 per year. The annual plan is charged for the whole year in one payment, not monthly instalments. Check the purchase screen and Apple's final confirmation for other currencies, taxes, prices and offers. The conditions displayed at purchase apply.
First-time subscribers eligible under Apple's conditions receive a three-day free trial, with three books in total during the trial. To avoid a charge, cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Cancellation may end trial access immediately. The trial automatically converts to the selected paid monthly or annual subscription. Eligibility and purchase history may mean a trial is not offered.
Your Apple Account is charged at confirmation of purchase, or when an eligible free trial ends. The subscription renews for the same duration unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Apple may charge for renewal during the preceding 24 hours. Price changes and any required approval follow Apple's procedures and applicable law.
8. Allowances and regeneration
The ordinary allowance is 15 books per purchaser each month, shared across all their groups and use by those groups' members. Annual plans also receive 15 each month. Monthly windows are based on the purchase/renewal date; the app shows the next reset and remaining amount. Unused allowances do not carry over and cannot be exchanged for cash. Where several subscribers are available, you can select the eligible payer.
Currently, character creation is limited to 20 per purchaser each month, or 20 in total during a trial. A character's reference image can be regenerated up to three times in total for that character.
A new book, sequel or whole-book regeneration uses one book. The first three page-image regenerations per book use no additional book allowance; each subsequent regeneration uses one. Retrying a failed page does not use that additional allowance. Text/title editing uses no additional books but requires an active payer.
If overall generation fails before the book becomes readable, the allowance is returned. A readable book generally counts as one even if some pages remain incomplete. These counting rules do not override statutory repair, refund or other remedies for defects.
9. Cancellation, refunds and withdrawal
Cancel in iPhone/iPad Settings > your name > Subscriptions > StudyTale. Normally, paid access continues to the end of the paid period after cancellation. Trial and similar access may end immediately under Apple's conditions. Use Apple's refund procedure for refund requests; you can also contact us about service problems.
Deleting an account/app or leaving a group does not stop auto-renewal. Existing books can still be read/deleted after a subscription ends, but a group without an active payer cannot create new books or make covered edits.
Japan's mail-order rules do not provide a general cooling-off right. This does not exclude legal cancellation, refunds or remedies for non-conformity, misleading information or other legal grounds. Applicable 14-day withdrawal rights and other mandatory rights in the EU/EEA and elsewhere remain available. Losing a withdrawal right when digital-content supply begins requires the legally necessary prior express consent, acknowledgment and other conditions. Continuing digital services are treated separately. Simply starting to use the app does not amount to a blanket waiver.
10. Storage and offline use
Some previously retrieved book content is stored on the device for offline use. We do not guarantee permanent storage or pre-downloading of all audio/pages. Device capacity, connectivity, deletion or service closure may affect access. We do not promise export or return functions that the app does not provide. Statutory information requests are handled through our privacy contact.
11. Leaving and account deletion
You can delete an account in Settings > Account. This removes authentication and related records, leaves groups, transfers ownership where necessary and deletes groups where you were the sole member. Books, characters and reader profiles in groups with remaining members may remain without the link to your deleted account.
Original uploads, derived images, shared content, local copies, backups and provider retention are distinct. Asynchronous media deletion, offline devices, already accepted generation and copies others obtained cannot necessarily all be erased immediately. See Privacy Policy Sections 10–12 for details and individual/parental requests. Sharing provisions do not restrict statutory deletion rights.
12. External services
Features use Apple, Google, Cloudflare, PlanetScale, RevenueCat, Anthropic, OpenAI, TypeSafe, ElevenLabs and other services described in Privacy Policy Sections 5–9, which explain information, purposes, overseas processing and retention. We do not send personal data to a new third-party AI without required permission.
Provider unavailability can delay or interrupt affected features. Services you separately use, including Apple's, also have their own terms. We do not shift our responsibility for meeting provider conditions solely onto users.
13. Changes, interruptions and closure
We may reasonably and proportionately interrupt or change features for maintenance, failures, law, provider requirements or safety. We normally give at least 30 days' notice on the site, in the app or otherwise before ordinary service closure or a material reduction in paid features. In emergencies, we notify you promptly afterwards.
For unprovided paid periods or non-conformity, we consider and provide applicable alternatives, access opportunities, refunds or other remedies under applicable law and Apple's procedures. Statutory remedies are not subject solely to our discretion.
14. Liability
Our and users' liability follows applicable law. We do not exclude or limit liability for our intentional misconduct, gross negligence or matters that cannot legally be excluded. Statutory consumer rights and remedies concerning life, physical safety or personal information remain available. Our liability is not reduced to zero merely because you paid no fee.
We do not impose unconditional, unlimited indemnification for others' conduct or our own responsibility. If a provision is invalid, the remainder continues to the extent permitted by law.
15. Changes to the Terms
We may make changes favourable to users, or reasonable changes consistent with the contract's purpose, subject to requirements such as Article 548-4 of Japan's Civil Code. We publish their content, reasons and effective date in advance on the site, in the app or otherwise, normally at least 30 days before materially adverse changes. Changes requiring individual consent apply after consent. Continued use is not deemed unconditional acceptance of every change.
Revisions will state effective dates and principal changes on this page. We retain prior versions, available through our contact point. September 28, 2026: initial adoption. October 15, 2026: added Anthropic and TypeSafe to the services used.
16. Law, courts, language and Apple's licence
These Terms are governed by Japanese law, without depriving you of mandatory consumer or other protections applicable where you habitually reside. Disputes may be brought in courts competent under applicable law. We impose no exclusive forum that removes consumers' statutory venues.
Japanese is authoritative; this English version translates the same content without limiting mandatory rights. The app licence is governed by Apple's Standard EULA; these Terms govern StudyTale's service. They are not a custom EULA replacing Apple's third-party beneficiary rights or other Standard EULA provisions.
